Holy Rood Church, Swinton

A local church serving its community

Children

Holy Rood church welcomes children and families, and is committed to providing a safe, supportive and fun environment for children of all ages.

Sunday Worship

Every month, on the first Sunday of the month, the main Sunday morning service at 10.15 is a special family service aimed especially at families and children, where we welcome children from the Sunday school and the uniformed organisations. We work hard to make sure the service is accessible and enjoyable for all ages, and if you haven’t been to church before, this is a particularly good service to bring children to. For details of the next family service, please check the calendar.

Sunday School

On other Sundays, there is usually a Sunday School which meets during part of the main service. For more details about the Sunday School, please click here. In every service, there is an area at the side of the church with bags of toys and colouring sheets  where parents are welcome to sit with babies or toddlers if desired. Baby changing facilities are available in Holy Rood Hall, next to the church.

Other Children's Services

In addition, Holy Rood runs a number of regular children’s services and events throughout the year, including Christingle, Pancake, and Easter Egg services, as well as a Pet service and a Halloween night.

These services tend to be short and lively, and all are welcome, whether you are a regular worshipper or not. Details of these services will be posted on our Home Page as and when they occur.

Baptisms

Holy Rood welcomes inquiries about Baptisms (Christenings) for children. For more details about how to arrange a baptism, please click here.

Children's Activities

A wide range of groups for children meet on a regular basis in Holy Rood Hall, next to the church, including uniformed organisations (Beavers, Cubs, Rainbows, Brownies, Guides), a play group, a parent and toddler group, and a pre- and after-school club. In addition, Holy Rood Stage Society and Archery Club welcome the involvement of children. For more details of any of these groups, please click here.

Child Protection

Holy Rood is committed to a comprehensive child protection policy, in accordance with guidelines issued by the Diocese of Manchester. All those who work with children in the Sunday school and in Holy Rood Stage Society have been subject to CRB checks. Other children’s organisations meeting in the hall are subject to their own child protection policies, which include CRB checks.
