Learning together through study and discussion are important aspects of our Christian journey, and at Holy Rood church, we try to encourage an active and thoughtful approach to faith.
Explore
If you are new to the church, you might like to come along to our ‘Explore: The Meaning of Life’ course, which we run on a regular basis. This is a seven week course where we look at some of the big questions of life: Is there a meaning or purpose to it all ? Can we believe in God in a scientific age ? What do the bible and the church really have to say to the modern world ?
We usually start with food and a glass of something to drink, and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The course is open to all, whether you are religious or not, with plenty time for discussion. The course can also be used by those seeking baptism or confirmation, or preparing to get married. For more details, click here.
For those who have enjoyed the Explore course, we are also developing a follow-up course, entitled "The Good Life: A Practical Guide", using the same format. For more details, click here.
Vicar's Forum
If you want to take your faith further, there are two other regular opportunities for learning. On Sundays, the “Vicar’s Forum” meets in the church hall at 9.00 am, for about 50 minutes. With input from different sources and people, the forum provides a lively place to explore everything from the biblical history, to politics and the issues of the day. We serve pretty good coffee here too!
Bible Study
You are also welcome to join us at the regular Bible study group, which meets every Monday, at
Occasional Courses
On an occasional basis, we also offer further courses or groups, often in Lent or in Autumn, looking at a whole range of issues. Details of forthcoming courses will be posted on the website and our monthly calendar.
Children
For children there is a weekly Sunday school, and regular special services and events aimed especially at children. For details of our provision for children, click here.
