Would you like to be part of a growing number of people who have banded together to ensure the Moorside Memorial Hall remains in use as a community facility for many years to come? If so, do please read on and consider becoming a ‘Friend of Moorside Memorial Hall’.
The Moorside Memorial Hall is currently used by approximately 600 people per week for a range of varied activities catering for adults, teenagers and children alike and plays and indeed has played a significant part in the lives of many a Moorside resident.
Now, please spare a moment to think about what the community would be missing out on if the hall had to close?
This is a distinct possibility unless we can raise a lot of money to carry out a number of urgent building projects.
The Moorside Memorial Hall was built in tribute to the local people of the Moorside Parish who had been killed in action during the First World War and opened in 1935 as a community facility for the whole of the Moorside area and by 2010 it will have completed 75 years of loyal and continuous service to the local community.
Like many 75 year olds the Memorial Hall is showing signs of age. Whilst it still functions very well, there are a number of major work projects that need to be undertaken if the Hall is to continue to provide a service for the residents of the Moorside area.
As a matter of urgency, one of the first jobs that must be tackled is the replacement of the current heating system which is nearly as old as the Hall itself. The cost of a new system is in the region of £28,000.
It is quite apparent that the Hall cannot continue to operate with the present system which is grossly inefficient, has a massive carbon footprint, and costs a fortune to run, especially given the recent and predicted rises in fuel costs.
There are a number of different schemes that can be approached with a view to securing funding to assist towards the costs of improvement. However, before we do, so we have to demonstrate to them that we are capable of and have made an effort to raise some money ourselves (The amount of self funding we have to demonstrate is around 10% of the total required.)
Therefore, we are asking all users of the hall, and indeed the wider Moorside community to make a contribution of £10 (or whatever you can afford) to ensure the Memorial Hall continues to be used as a community facility and secure its use for future for future generations.
If you would like to make a donation and become a ‘Friend of the Moorside Memorial Hall’ then please make your cheque payable to ‘The Friends of the Moorside Memorial Hall. (Cheques are preferred for auditing and accounting purposes.)
Do please give some serious consideration to making a donation and playing your part to secure the future of the Moorside Memorial Hall. Your donation will be gratefully received and faithfully applied.
It really would be a pity for all this historic building, which has played a significant part in the lives of many people in the area, to be lost just for the lack of a little tender care and attention.
